An affinity between Scottish bowlers and their North East of England counterparts has grown in recent years to such an extent that those who visit the area are welcomed like long lost family.

Darlington Indoor Bowls Club in the Durham region is one of the biggest success stories in English bowling and Scots are one of the reasons behind its phenomenal rise to the top.

The north of England has always been a second home for Scots, with the city of Newcastle being a prime exponent of the region's leading attributes. Darlington, though, has enjoyed a new lease of life in recent years and has developed into one of the most popular haunts for bowlers from all over the UK.
In its early years the club soon acquired a Rolls Royce reputation in the bowling world and became known as one of the first centres to host televised bowls, thus taking the game to the masses.

Since its grand opening in 1980 it has staged several national and international events and has attracted the attention of sponsors and television production teams. Famous players and champions galore have graced the stadium across all eight rinks and created a centre court-like atmosphere, thrilling packed houses over more than two decades.

Your bowls holiday could last for two days or the entire week. You can take part in a challenge match with the locals or organise your own tournament with friends. Away from the greens your party can enjoy the countryside, shops and friendly seaside atmosphere. There is a wide choice of where to stay, too, from quaint bed and breakfasts to a range of hotels.
