The
Vilamoura Lawn Bowls Club was established in 1993 and actually has about
24 members all year round, some Portuguese, but mainly British living
in the Algarve, plus circa 30 bowlers who come to the Algarve for a long
stay in winter time. Some of the clubs members have played in international
events and in the Worthing Men's Open and were consolation pairs runners
up. A Portuguese team mainly represented by two national players have
participated in the European Teams Championship involving twelve countries.
Bowling Greens
There
are two championship size greens (fourteen rinks in all) with natural
grass (Penn cross creeping bent grass Agrostis stolonifera) from Oregon
State University USA. The greens are in pleasant surroundings with flowers,
shrubs and trees. There is an attractive bar/snack bar situated in an
open space with a car park, where light meals can be served as well as
hot and cold drinks. There are open competitions every Tuesday, Friday
and Sunday which you can enter at no extra cost.
